Creative Portfolio: benefits in developing students’ strengths



This session aims at developing teachers’ skills in the use of portfolio and see how useful it can be in the development of students’ strengths towards the process of learning a foreign language. We saw how we can prepare a practical and cheap portfolio to take records of the strengths and weaknesses of our students in the classroom.  See how regular records can be part of the permanent formative assessment.

Ideas to promote in the students:
creativity
holistic learning

Idea 1: Creative Portfolio
Folder, white paper, pencils, colours,…

Idea 2: The lexicon
If you want a building you need bricks, if you want a sentence you need words
Create a list of phrases with words from A to Z (In basic 1…is it possible? Yes, of course¡)

Idea 3: 10/20/30 Questions to survive
10/20/30 questions to interact (BL), in the street, in a museum, in a coffee bar

Idea 4: Documentaries with subtitles
Expose Ss to videos with subtitles (summary)

Idea 5: The art of music
Expose Ss to positive songs with subtitles….songs from the XX century (1901-2000)… but specially XXI century

Idea 6: Read and Read
Practice the art of reading: aloud, in silence, in groups, in pairs …. create short paragraphs

Idea 7: Real Material
Expose Ss to different magazines and newspaper in English

Idea 8: The CV
Prepare and create with the Ss their CVs

Idea 9: Ying yang
Make list of words: nouns, adjectives:  boy-girl, good-bad, white-black... 

Idea 10: The journalist
Radio web in English: interviews / reports / articles…
