Good afternoon and thank you so much for having us over here. I just want to start by thanking specially ESALUD for bringing us and inventing us to Peru and also Biblioteck National de Peru (Peruvian National Library) for having us come here and being able to share our experience and meeting a lot of doctors and neurologists in Peru. It is a great honor and privilege.

This technology? I can tell you on a personal level as a Doctor Obviously I am very passionate about this. There is no prize for saving lives prostrate and cancer effects not only men but also spouses and the families. So I get tremendous satisfaction for not only saving lives But the quality of life as well.

I can tell you also That this is a tremendous great step by bringing this technology and the science and the experience of the last decade to bring them to Peru.
This is a huge advancement. And I also want to take the opportunity to thank the president of National Library Mr. Ramon Mujica For bringing and inviting us to be here.

She has also concluded her studies at Universidad de Piura-Funiber to obtain her MA in TEFL. Manuel Lopez is a language teacher with more than 30 years of teacher experience. He has worked as a teacher, coordinator, director, advisor and academic consultant. He is also a Humanities teacher. He holds international certificates such as CAE from UCLES and ECPE from Michigan University. He is a Licenciate in English from PUCP and a Licenciate in History and Geography from U. Piura. He also finished his Master in Education at U. Piura. He has worked at school, language schools, universities and language projects in Peru. He has also been the Academic Consultant with the most prestigious publishers and distributors in the world.

Students are changing their perception of learning and teachers need to cope with this in class Through activities that engage students we can make classes more attractive and productive.

• LEONOR MARIN CACERES - BRINGING CULTURE INTO THE CLASSROOM!
Leonor Marin holds a degree in Educaton from Instituto Pedagógico Nacional-Monterrico, a Post-Graduate Degree from Saint Mary’s University, United Kingdom on ‘Course and Syllabus Design’ Study-Skills at Lancaster University and Phonology at International House-London. She got the Business Cultural Trainers Certificate at International House in London in 2010. She has worked at State Schools, Catholic University Language Institute, ESAN, Britanico, Universidad del Pacifico, also at the Ministry of Education. Project Manager, she has actively participated in different ELT events in Peru, delivering sessions at Braz-Tesol, IATEFL Annual International Conference in UK. Currently she is a Board Member of the UK Alumni, she teaches at Universidad del Santa Post Graduate School, she is also working on designing a Peruvian ELT project for the British Council .She is PERU-TEC Academic Advisor, Global Issues SIG Coordinator and IATEFL-PERU English Teachers’ Association President.

ABSTRACT
The teaching of language and culture is believed to have an inter-relational relationship since the teaching of a language is also the teaching of its culture. Language teaching does not only provide the students with language competence and communication skills but developing their social (cultural) skills in terms of using language appropriately. Yet, how deep culture is being explored and positioned appropriately to ensure ESL/EFL classroom fulfill its objective?
In this workshop we will present Barry Tomalin’s five Cs regarding what he defines as Culture – the fifth language skill. We will make culture happen in our teaching through six activities for different levels. Just one thing required: your passion and enthusiasm in ELT!

• DAVID ALFREDO VILLANUEVA CARDENAS - CREATIVITY IN THE CLASSROOM

Research Scientist, Architect, Educator, Historian and Photographer, Bilingual teacher at the National University of San Marcos full time. He has held teaching in different institutions. He is a member of Pro Marina, Orania Society, IATEFL-PERU, Peruvian Association of Astronomy, National Coordinator of World Space Week, Peruvian Scientific Network Divulgers and Iberoamerican Society for the History of Photography. He regularly publishes his experience in the web www.bitacoradeingles.blogspot.com

ABSTRACT
I will share a flexible and inexpensive methodology for students to create artistic posters in English classes.
An applicative project which was conducted on a group of students in basic and intermediate level of learning English language and culture in San Marcos. Participants were undergraduate students of science and letters. Using the textbook and theoretical contribution of Dr. Thomas Orr, graded according to the Peruvian reality. The panels were manufactured in flipcharts and exposed on the same day of its creation.
RESULTS: The posters made in class have helped to develop the following skills: interaction, synthesis, reflection, teamwork, creative thinking, rhetoric (the art of speaking eloquently and correction).

• MARIA ES ESTHER LINARES - WHAT DO YOUNG LEARNERS NEED AND WANT WHEN LEARNING ENGLISH?
Maria Esther is an ELT academic adviser holding a Master Degree in TEFL from University of Reading, U.K. and the Diploma for Overseas Teachers of English from the Royal Society of Arts, UK., and has got her degree in Education from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH). She has more than 30 years of experience as an EFL teacher and has held various posts in the field including 20 years as a Teacher Trainer and giving lectures and workshops in different academic events in Peru, Argentina, Chile and Brazil. Currently, she is an MA TEFL Tutor at Funiber-Universidad de Piura, a part-time teacher at Universidad ESAN and an Oral Examiner for the University of Cambridge.


ABSTRACT
Young children learn from everything they do. They are naturally curious; they want to explore and discover. If their explorations bring pleasure or success, they will want to learn more. During these early years, children form attitudes about learning that will last a lifetime. Children who receive the right sort of support and encouragement during these years will be creative, adventurous learners throughout their lives. Children who do not receive this sort of support and interaction are likely to have a much different attitude about learning later in life.
Even though it is a demanding job, teachers can get great satisfaction and fun with them. Let´s enjoy the experience.

• JAIME ANCAJIMA - CREATING EMOTIONALLY SAFE CLASSROOMS

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, has finished his studies of TEFL Master, holds the CPE Cambridge University Certificate and two TESOL Certificates he got in England and in Costa Rica. Besides, he studied an Institute on American Culture and Society at New York University last year. He’s given workshops in Peru, Mexico, Costa Rica and in Ecuador. He works at Universidad de Piura as a teacher and Academic Coordinator at the School of Education. He’s a Speaking Examiner for Cambridge ESOL Exams.
ABSTRACT
There is a growing awareness that schools have a responsibility to create classrooms that are positive, nurturing environments. In this workshop we will explore why this is important and how an emotionally safe classroom can be created.
We will reflect on the following questions: What do teachers and students need in order to engage in joyful learning and compassionate interaction? How can we contribute to meeting those needs?

We will draw upon contemporary research to support our central assertion that engaged learning only occurs when the needs of teachers and students for physical and emotional safety are met.
In this workshop we will also share ideas to help both teachers and students to have a better relationship in class and do their best in their teaching-learning process.

• ANA C. SANCHEZ - COACHING FOR LEARNING – FRIENDS AND ENEMIES OF LEARNING

Ana C. Sanchez is currently a freelance Educational Coach and Language Learning Specialist. She works with children from several schools in Lima, helping them achieve their academic goals by developing cognitive strategies, which are critical for the learning process. She holds a BA degree and a Licentiate Degree in Education and she is a candidate for a MA in TEFL at FUNIBER with the University of Piura - Peru, (thesis has been submitted and is being revised). She has also finished a 9-month program in Ontological Coaching. She has a Certificate of Proficiency in English from the University of Michigan, (ECPE passed with honors) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Neuro-Education (Cerebrum – San Pablo Catholic University).

ABSTRACT
A coach guides, motivates, encourages, and supports. When you coach your students you empower them and allow them to find the answers as to what to do and how to do it to be more effective in life. It is being less focused on telling or showing and more focused on guiding them to find their own answers and become actively involved in their learning process. In this workshop we will discover and discuss about how we all have “friends” and “enemies” when learning and how being aware of them can help us grow as professionals and human beings.

• ISRAEL DIAZ - GETTING EFFECTIVE ELT MATERIALS FROM THE INTERNET

Israel Diaz holds a BA in Education from San Marcos University and a Master of Arts Degree in TESOL from The University of Edinburgh. He has over 20 years teaching experience and has worked in different schools in Lima and as a teacher trainer for the project between the British Council and the Peruvian Ministry of Education to improve the teaching of English in state secondary schools of Peru. Mr. Diaz has worked at San Marcos University and as an academic coordinator for LPB. He has also worked as a teacher in Scotland, Ecuador and the United States. He is currently working at Britanico.

ABSTRACT
Considering how expensive and difficult to find ELT materials are, teachers often struggle to get the best materials to read, listen or watch. This workshop will show teachers how to

get almost any book, music and video from the internet for free. It will not only give you the web pages where you can go to but will show you how to do it properly to get better results. You don’t need to be a geek to do it. You just need to know simple basic steps and you will soon be increasing your digital library at home. You will also learn how to use the materials you get in your teaching.

• MARTHA ISABEL SAAVEDRA - DEALING WITH SILENCE IN THE CLASSROOM
Martha Isabel Saavedra , English and French translator/interpreter, with a vast experience as a teacher of EFL, ESL in several well-known university language centres, schools and institutes in Lima. Cambridge English Examinations Oral Examiner, having administered Starters, Movers, Flyers, Ket, Pet, and FCE at Britanico. Martha holds international diplomas like CEELT 1, CEELT 2, COTE, CAE, and CPE. She has also attended various ELT International seminars abroad among them the International Seminar for English Teachers at the University of Oxford, England. Former Academic Director at UTP and UCH Universidad de Ciencias y Humanidades Language Centres. She is currently the English Area Curriculum Specialist at Innova Schools.

ABSTRACT
One of the various typical problems which has a negative impact on the oral production of the language in the classroom is empty silence, which speaks about learner´s language anxiety, inhibition and fear to speak. We attempt to offer some strategies to fight such insolicited silence and make students speak more in the classroom.

• EILEEN MURPHY - TECH TOOLS FOR EVERYONE
Eileen Murphy is a teacher and teacher trainer with 14 years of experience both in Peru and internationally. She currently works with Universidad del Pacifico and teaches online with the Open University of Catalonia. She is taking an MA in TESOL and Technology with The University of Manchester and is interested in the use of technology in education.

ABSTRACT
Research and personal experience have proved that language learning becomes more efficient when students are exposed as often as possible to the target language. Immersion programs base their successful accomplishment of language mastery not only faster than other programs but also in a more relaxed, comfortable and fun ways for the learners to become easily engaged keeping the momentum that can be created at the beginning of each lesson (according to Dr. J Asher, 2010: ..”We only have five minutes to convince students that they can actually learn the target language).
Since not always immersion programs are viable or accessible to all kinds of learners, and schools are usually “too busy” trying to focus on curricula completion, the results of extensive years of experience and studies have allowed me to use the implementation of English usage based on projects across the board as a good way to apply and adapt what other writers such as Sherris, S. (2008), Darn, S (2009) and others have been using under CLIL (“Content and Language Integrated Learning”).
Using the right tools in different subject areas allows students to establish neurological connections that contribute towards language acquisition whilst they can apply their new knowledge to real life situations more easily, whether it is for writing, reading, speaking, or even thinking!. Therefore the use of integrated projects not only favors language acquisition but also provides opportunities for staff to work collaboratively covering many topics in their teaching units.
During the current lecture a number of different tools and analysis of different real life school situations for English language learners will be presented to provide our audience the necessary tools and procedures to find ways to implement integrated language learning programs across the curricula. Likewise, the potential setbacks and how to overcome difficulties that can arise from these strategies will be discussed.
